Jane Alexander

Though I originally trained at Edinburgh College of Art, I swapped sketchbooks for notebooks several years ago. A short story evening class at London’s Morley College was my first step in going public as a writer. A couple of years later, I studied for an M.Phil in creative writing at the University of Glasgow and learned a huge amount about the craft, the process and the challenges of writing.
I now teach creative writing to adult learners in a range of settings – higher, further, adult and community education – aiming to pass on what I’ve learned, and to support my students to develop as writers. My approach is supportive and constructive, centred around a commitment to take the time to understand where participants are coming from and what their personal goals may be, and to engage positively with their work on its own terms.
